Dear Friends of The Global Village Children’s Project,
First and foremost “Thank you so very much!” for the generosity of your time, prayer, energy and money that so many of you have offered in support of our work on behalf of the orphaned children of Wanyange, Uganda, for so many years now.
As I shared with you in my last letter, we have much to celebrate. All our college kids – including our 4 new college freshman, are already on their campuses, beginning their summer academic term. Without your support taking that step would have been a dream, rather than a reality.
Likewise, you made it possible for us to replace our old truck – once it was clearly beyond repair – with our wonderful new van! Your support has freed us from the endless vehicle rental fees that had become a necessity for transporting our students to school, carrying out frequent trips to their medical appointments and maintaining engagement with all the many aspects of everyday life – everything that owning a working vehicle makes possible.
And now – again, with thanks to you – we are so very close to being able to deliver all 7 of our students, who are still in high school, to their respective campuses.
Here is where we are at this point. Eli, Annah, Josh and Kevin have already been dropped off at their dorms. Tuition fees for the upcoming school terms for Eli, Annah, Josh and Kevin have been paid in full. Ella (Tuition = $1,300), Beat (Tuition = $800) and Blessing (Tuition = 1,000) are due to return to their high school campuses in one week – each with tuition due, at the latest, upon arrival at their school campuses. Fortunately, we just this week received Blessing’s tuition fee from the person who is sponsoring her individually. But we are still short $2,100, if we are to maintain our commitment to keep all 15 of our kids on track with their academic goals.
Each young person in our care understands clearly that academic success is their path to independent self sustaining livelihoods and each of them likewise recognizes, with profound appreciation, that it is you who have thrown a life line to them in the tumultuous seas of their young lives.Pictured here is what you all have made possible – ownership of our new multi purpose vehicle. One of our kids, Sophia – together with our Director, Anne, and all our students – wanted you to know how grateful we all are for this gift of love. So she sent you a love hug right through the front end of our new Nissan SERENA Van! Then, not long after that, relieved that we no longer have to rent vehicles for transporting students to school, bringing supplies to our fields and hauling crops back to town, six of our students, in the photo below, took time to check out our new van while loading it up for the upcoming trip back to their University dorms.

Here is a bit about how Beet and Ella each came to be with us and some detail about their aspirations for their coming adult lives.
Beet – is 19 yrs old. She will complete Secondary school in the winter of 2027. Beet’s father died when she was about 11 years old. Having heard of our work, and unable to pay school fees for Beat, her mother came to us, truly desperate and hoping that we could help. GVCP started paying Beat’s tuition and buying her scholastic supplies. Beat persevered and proved herself to be dedicated to mastering her studies. Now in her fourth year of secondary school, Beat will be joining university life in 2027 and intends to train to become an Obstetrician.
Ella – is 15 years old. She will complete high school in the winter of 2029. Ella’s dad died prior to her birth. After she was born, her mother developed serious mental illness. When Ella was one and a half years old, her mother abandoned her in the care of her elderly grandparents. When she was two and a half years old, Global Village Children’s Project heard of her complicated needs and soon she started living with Anne. Ella has grown into being a very bright, beautiful young teen who is looking forward to becoming a university student in 2030. She is on the school basketball team, and enjoys gardening, among other activities. Despite the long path that will lie ahead for her, Ella plans on training to become a neurosurgeon.
Well, that’s my story – my pitch for your support – for today friends. … Oh wait a minute, did I forget to mention that we have a $1,000 payment due (one of three more owed still) that has to be paid on September 15th to keep our end of the deal that brought our wonderful new van into the service of our kids? Oh well, I am sure we will find the way forward on that front as well. But first things first, we need to get all of our students to their upcoming classes on time!
